awesome_t: Collinsfbi thank you so much for your great responses on this thread. I have a question with regards to Medical Insurance cover for Study Permit. Should the cover you pay for cover the entire length of your studies or you can do a minimum of 6 months? What is the acceptable cover length that the embassy requires.
If you have enough cash you can go for the one that will cover your entire period of study but you can as well go for a minimum of six month medical insurance, it's accepted.

STENACO: I submitted my application for study permit to south african embassy for the past one month two weeks and they still tell me is still being processed. I dont know if anything could br worng. I got the medical insurance from their country, paid the repatriation fee as well.I am meant to travel by december. I have been to south africa before and I did not break any immigration rule so I returned to nigeria when I was due to return. I am worried over the time this have taken. My whole documents are authentic and I even paid 10percent of the tuition fee. I dont know if I have done anything wrong here?
I realise it usually take longer time to process South African Study Permit from Nigeria but i don't really know why, compare to short processing time if applied within South Africa. However, i think you should be patient, you will be contacted soon. Meanwhile, is the 10% tuition deposit the requirement from your school? Apart from the medical issurance, did you include your x-ray medical report?

On the other hand, i wonder why you expect other applicants to call you for enquiries? Please note, if you are applying to any institution in South Africa, make sure your the school is well recognised and Home Affairs normally approve study permit to their prospective applicants as some schools are only recognised as distance learning institution e.g (Unisa-University of South Africa) except masters and PhD students. If for instance you applied to unisa for undergraduate course, Home Affairs will not approve study permit for you based on the fact that you can as well complete such program through distance learning in your own country, however Home Affairs may approve your study permit as an undergraduate of such school if you are currently residing in South Africa legally (even if you are on visiting visa) but you must be recommended with supporting documents from your school, otherwise your application for study permit may not be granted

The school I applied to is North west university. They have not actually required me to pay the tuition but I insisted to pay the minimum amout for registration which they approved. I went with the x ray they said they do not need that. They collected everything but left that one. I called them they still said it is not fully processed. I dont know what they are up to. Could there be there is any other thing required I thought they would have told me by the time I called. If I had known I would still be able to apply for permit from their country I would have gone there with visitors permit. I went to south africa last year and I returned at the right time because I never knew I would be able to process that from their country.

Now they are having my passport what will I do.

Hello house, please I want to know if a bank statement of a south African bank account is acceptable to process a study permit in Nigeria and how much must be in the account. Thirdly, what percentage of my school fee is advisable to pay as deposit?
Thanks

yeah, u cud use S.A. bank account, if yours fine,if its for a sponsor attach a cover letter from him/her. there is no minimum amount, just make sure the balance would cover your tuition, accommodation, and living expenses. on how much you should pay, make sure u had paid aceptance deposit and av the receipt, aside that,u cud pay any percentage of the fees, best is to comply with the requirements of ur school, some schools may state clearly how much u should pay before registration.

North West University is more or less like UNISA, they operate full time and distance learning study mode, if your course can be completed through distance learning mode, i am afraid you may have problem with your study permit and if otherwise then be patient, good luck. You are not to submit the x-ray result but x-ray medical report (The report will be in form of a letter addressed to the embassy from your medical doctor stating the result of the x-ray.)

No SAQA no study permit, besides how did you secure admission without SAQA evaluation or you applied for short course without SAQA requirement? Wherever you plan to submit your application, their requirement is the same, however, if you are admitted for undergraduate course, to be on a safer side, attach your sponsor's ID and covering letter to his/her bank statement but if you are going for masters try and get the money into your acct if possible attach a covering letter too to explain the source of the money if you are not working.

. North West University differs considerably from UNISA. The NWU presents majority of their Degree programmes on a full time bases, while UNISA specialises in distance education. It is only short learning courses that are offered on part-time in NWU and has three campuses, namely, Mafikeng, Vanderbylpark and Potchefstroom campus. Unfortunately, you did not give much finer details as to why would they delay your application, because there is no reason if you presented them with your passport and admission letter from NWU, your Nigerian school results that had been evaluated and converted to SA point/score system by SAQA and your certificate of clean bill of health.

@collinsfbi and others. I made a flight reservation with south africa airways against 10Dec departure. However In my reservation confirmation it states that 'your reservation wil be held until 25 Nov 2012..
The clause now is i want to submit my application tomorow and i assume hope they wont consider it invalid since S.A.A might av cancelled d reservation by d time the embassy would confirm. Pls let me learn cos i cant afford to be denied on little thing.

I have been to SA for like Four(4) times on each occassion, i apply thru Abuja as i reside here, and i am going to apply for Tourism again this month to go on holiday in December.
1. Is it compulsory to write my individual application since my company already wrote an introduction letter on my behalf to this effect?
2. And must i make a booking for a paid accomodation since i always make use of HRS: Hotel Reservation Portal and pay on arrival at the hotel?

On the four occasions, didn't you apply yourself? Anyway, once you get a letter of introduction from your company, there is not need to include any personal letter of introduction but make sure you include your Visa Application Letter and try to include paid hotel reservation to avoid any chance of denial. You don't seem to have problem, your application will be treated as frequent traveler.

For the fact that UNISA specialises in distance education according to you, do you know they still operate some class based courses as much NWU operates some distance learning courses. Anyway, no qualms.

If you include you mobile phone number/email ID on the copy of the visa receipt submitted with your application as requested, you suppose to receive sms alert on the very day you submitted your application and subsequent processing details through sms alert or via email. If you have not received any sms alert al all, i will advise you to contact SA embassy with your application ref no via customer service.

There is nothing like mature age when it comes to permit, even WAEC/NECO result needs SAQA evaluation for study permit, i don't know the requirement for your course of study but SAQA is very important to study permit in SA except if there is special exemption for that particular course granted by SAQA, without that, no permit brother. You should have confirmed this before turning in your application.

I have friends doing masters in UNISA, who were admitted early 2011 without SAQA but did their permit with their SAQA. I don't dispute the fact that your school may not require SAQA for admission but from what i know now SAQA is required for SA study permit. However, the outcome of your permit will determine if SAQA is required of your course or not.

What is the difference between HESA and SAQA. This whole is compounded. They have my documents for the past 2month every day they say it is still not fully processed.

Do I withdraw the application?
