Ubenedictus: interestingly you haven't been able to prove any inconsistency. I put it to everyone on the thread, there is no untruth in the teaching of one God in 3 persons and there is nothing unscriptural there.

Lol.....try to squeeze the trinity into 1 corinthians 8:5-6.....cheesy.....and see how you would get all confused......

There says the one true God is the Father.......

Try fixing three persons into the Father and let's all get mad.......

i believe this question should be rightly directed to bookmark and yourself, u both claim christ isn't truly God because he said the father is d only true God so please answer should this your logic also be applied to mean that Jesus isn't Good because he said only the father is Good?

I'm waiting for your answer.

Remember we told you Christ isn't the same as his Father or the almighty because he isn't all-GOOD....remember??.....

Jesus' statement only goes a long way to help you see that he isn't part of a trinity or the same as his Father or equal with him......

Jesus clearly showe d trinitarians that there logic is wrong.......

While Jesus and the rest of us can be good, the Father is the only one who is all-GOOD......got it??......

Lol....I saw your list up there....one thing you didn't notice is that the truth about God was explicitly explained in d scriptures, not like the other hidden details we have about when d angels were created,if they were created male or female etc...........

Even the name of God was given to us in the scriptures........

C'mon now Ij,

You can't really say that the revelation we have about God in sacred scriptures are explicit enough to quench our thirst to know him. What has been revealed about God in sacred scriptures is enough to get us by but these are very little compared to what we are yet to know.

ijawkid:
If we make do with what the scripture has to say then I see no reason why persons should believe in the trinity
.......

I will agree with this comment to the extent that belief or lack of belief in the teaching of the Trinity is not sufficient to merit or lose heaven but in terms of what we have in sacred scriptures, I will say that there is more than one scriptural reference to show that Christ is divine.

The ish here is, Sacred scriptures makes claims for Christ that can only be attributed to the Father. Similarlly, Christ also makes claims that we can only attribute to God and not man. The last I checked, the God I serve is a 'jealous' God and will contend with no rivals but why does he allow Christ to confer these attributes of his to himself if Christ is not God?

ijawkid:
Those who hold on to the trinity and still think they believe in God being one are just running around in circles.........

Well Ij, I am of the opinion that those who accepts the Trinity gives credence to God's ability to do whatever he wants without restraint i.e giving credence to an almighty God, while those who find the teachings impossible are indirectly saying that God has limits.

ijawkid:
1 corinthians 8:5-6 solves the problem.......

The quote above does not solve the ish cause Paul is not of the opinion that there are many gods. He posits that there is only one God and the rests are of no real existence. Hence, this does not apply to Christ and what sacred scriptures says about him. 'Trinitarians' believe that God is one too.

ijawkid:
I'm happy you are also questioning the inconsistencies of the 3nity dogma.......

It's really not about inconsistencies but a bid to appreciate the teaching of the Trinity. If what Christ said about himself and what Sacred scriptures says about Christ is anything to go by then it makes sense to believe in the Trinity.

i put it to you that you didnt read the scripture in question, Jesus didnt say God alone is all good and others are simply good. He said
why do you call me good? Only God is good.

Now i ask again since you decided to use the exclusive interpretation when christ said "d fada is d only true God" why have u refused to use it when christ says only God is good.
I put it to you that ur interpretations are inconsistent.

My interpretation is consistent bro.......that verse is simple and explains everything.......

Jesus saying the Father is the only true God and that only the Father is Good connotes the Fathers supremacy over his son in everything.......that the Father is the almighty God that has no equals......

I just don't know where you're heading at with your questions....the scriptures are clear....

Oya just tell me what Jesus words mean?.....Jesus said only God is Good....which God was he refering to as only??.....the trinity God??.....

Hehehehe...who said Jesus is partly bad??......

What you should be asking is why an all GOOD Jesus whom you claim to be equal with his God and Father(I wonder how one would be equal with his God and Father in the first place) deny being called Good but aRrogate GOODness to his equal(the Father)......Jesus there in that §cripture debunks the trinity flat......

Jesus there shows us who is the ultimate standard for the definition of goodness......

Rudimentary knowledge does not make God any less mysterious!

ijawkid:
When you say one is divine what exactly do you mean......??....

God!

ijawkid:
Can you please explicitly list out the attributes that should make me think Christ is an equal with his God??.....

My aim right now is not to make you think that Christ is equal with the father but to let you see my convictions on the matter. Sacred scriptures does not lie...some of the prophecies about Christ explicitly reveals the truth about him being one with God. The following revelation given to Isiah is very explicit:

Isaiah 9:6
King James Version (KJV)

6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Titles like 'mighty God' is only attributed to the one true God. If this is also an attribute of Christ then there is no shred of doubt in my mind that Christ is indeed God. Now considering that there is nothing like two Gods i.e. God is eternally one, the only explanation for this is that the Son and the Father are indeed one.

The above reference to Christ as God is quite different from Psalm 82:6, where humans are called 'gods' due to the simple fact that we are all sons of the most high.

Referring to Christ as the Eternal father also is an attribute reserved specifically to God alone. We were told by Christ himself that we should call no one father cause we have just one father who happens to be God. He (God) is the everlasting Father and for this title to be given to one who is not him is very disturbing unless that person has one substance with him.

The ish so many persons have about Christ being equal with God has to do with the comments he made which seems to imply that he is lesser than the father but Paul explains the reason why it was so in his letter to the Philippians:

Philippians 2:3
King James Version (KJV)

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

The simple answer Paul gave was Christ' humility. This explains it perfectly as he went further to say:

Philippians 2:5-7
King James Version (KJV)
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men

His humility made him accept the position of a servant hence assuming the likeness of men. So when Christ make some comments that seem to take away his divinity, the above is the reason why he made those comments. This humility also lead him to accept baptism from one of his subjects even though he does not need to be baptized. The fact that John baptized Jesus does not in any way imply that Jesus is less than John...

ijawkid:
While Jesus does exhibit his Fathers qualities in no way makes him an equal......

What is said about Jesus goes beyond just exhibiting the Father's qualities...the titles of the father were also attributed to him. Any human being can exhibit some qualities of God. The fact that we do good alone shows that we can indeed exhibit the qualities of God but it takes more than just one's humanity to get the title 'Mighty God' and 'Eternal father'. These are titles for God alone.

ijawkid:
Jesus umpteen times showed us that he has an oga at the top who is his God and Father and who he is not equal to.......

I have explained why it seems so.

ijawkid:
We are Gods too......but not equal with God......

We are not "Gods" but 'gods'; there is a difference. Jesus is not a 'god' but God and he was described as the eternal father. Are we eternal fathers too?

lf.....

Uben has explained the bold so no need go into them again.

ijawkid:
Besides I can confidently say God cannot do everything........yes!!!.........

The only thing God cannot do is commit sin which is the same as offending himself cause sin is an offence against God. If you know of any other thing God cannot do, please let me know.

ijawkid:

frosbel: SHOCKER, WATCH :

All that is in the video, you have said over and over again and I have reviewed every single allegations with an unbiased mind and what I notice is that the ish has to do with every sides looking glass.

Protestants learn their faith from sacred scriptures through the inspiration of the spirit while Catholics do not learn their faith from Sacred scriptures but depend solely on the spirit. The latter is the example the Apostles gave.

The Apostles never depended on sacred scriptures but on the spirit for guidance hence their ability to push aside the old testament teachings in some cases. Even going as far as rejecting teachings like circumcision which was directly from God himself.

If we were there during the times of the Apostles we would have held unto the old testament as a number of the Jews did cause it is the inspired word of God too and no one is 'authorized' to do away with any of the teachings therein. But we never did and I don't believe that God's spirit has stopped revealing its truths to his people, even after the demise of the first Apostles.

Sorry to say but I see protestants on nairaland and I feel a deep sense of sorrow, for they are like a sheep without a shepherd. You hear things like, be silent on where Sacred scriptures is silent. Meaning every man is free to do whatever in that regard as the 'spirit' leads. But the funny thing there is that people do different things and not the same; do we then say the spirit lead them to do those different things?

I do not accept this! God would never abandon his people to this extent. The spirit continues to teach and guide his people to this very day and the only place I see updates to teachings is in the Catholic Church. The Catholic church is the only place where teachings are done; others sadly, learn instead of teach.

ijawkid:

Really?.....God is one and he is the Father.....isn't that simple??..

The question is still unanswered. Does this simple truth make God any less mysterious?

ijawkid:
Are we not Gods too??.....are the angels not God too??...aren't they divine??....

We are not Gods, there is only one God.

ijawkid:
Is the Christ not also son of the most high??...is he the Father of the most high??....

This is not convincing! You need to study what it means to say that Christ is the only begotten son of the Father. Saying that Christ is also the Son of the most high is very inappropriate cause you assume that Christ Sonship to the Father is like that of any other man. This is very incorrect!

ijawkid:
Christ being called the eternal Father in isaiah makes him no equal with God because the Father is the Father of Christ...

The above still is not convincing cause it is explicit in Sacred scriptures that we have only one Father who lives for all eternity. Thus to name another Eternal Father when that individual is not him would be very inappropriate. We know that Sacred scriptures is true for all ages and it spoke the truth when it named Christ as the Eternal Father who happens to be God.

And I have already explained why Christ made comments that made himself look lesser than the father. Paul explained it actually in one of his letters. Refer to the passage I quoted before.

ijawkid:
Christs Fatherhood is limited in that he has a Father.......

C'mon Ij, I am very sure you know what eternal means. How can a fatherhood that is Eternal be limited? It won't make any sense to call Christ Eternal Father and God Eternal Father when Christ does not have the same substance as God. Remember he was called mighty God and don't tell me that he was not called Almighty smiley.

ijawkid:
Christ is the appointed Father of the new age,,,the new adam.....titles like holy Father applies strictly to the Father in the heavens

Where did you get the above from? Did Sacred scriptures tell you that Christ was referred to as the Eternal Father because he is the new Adam? Please show us the reference in Sacred scriptures.

ijawkid: but your priests and popes bear those titles...are the the one true God too??.......

I hope you are not trying to digress by bringing up the above? It is entirely irrelevant to the discuss. Unless you want to quote a passage in sacred scriptures where the pope was referred to as the Eternal Father.

ijawkid:
The Father and the son are not equal...you do know that...you do know scriptures and words of Jesus that clearly shows us the truth.......like "the Father is greater than I AM"...

Paul has explained why comments like the above were made. Also refer to the contributions of Uben too.

ijawkid:
Taking a critical look at the hebrew rendering there that is transliterated as Mighty God in no way connotes Jesus being the same as the almighty God.....it connotes Jesus sa being a powerful king that was given rulership and also appointed by His God and Father.......

Whether Mighty, Almighty etc there is only one God and that passage referred to Christ as he. The title of the Eternal Father is reserved for God alone.

ijawkid:
If Christ thought it not robbery to be equal with his God and Father then why the humility at the same time??isn't that contradictory??............

You seem not to understand what Paul was trying to teach in that passage. Paul was admonishing us to emulate the humility of Christ. There is no contradiction there. Paul used Christ as an example to put across this teaching of humility. Refer to the passage again!

ijawkid:
apart from Christs humility he was also been obedient to his God as each and everyone of us is.......Christ obeyed his Father and came to do the Fathers will.......
Christ is lesser than his Father just as we are lesser than Christ........1 corinthians 11:3 should help you more.....

I have explained why the above is.

ijawkid:
I just explained what the titles eternal Father and mighty God means from that isaiah..........that scripture in no way signifies equality with God on the part of Christ.......because the almighty is God is God over Christ and also Father over Christ........

Refer to my prior discuss!

ijawkid:
Your explanation holds no water, because Jesus himself denies it.......Jesus is lesser than his Father and God.....chikena......that is why he could say we and him(Jesus) share the same Father and God.......we are all subordinates of the almighty.......

Now Ij, do you honestly believe that to teach that only God is our Father in one thread and come in another thread to teach that Jesus is also the Eternal Father is an explanation that holds water? Come to think of it, how many Eternal Fathers do we have?

ijawkid:
Is the capital letter G your problem??....the angels are God too.......

My ish is that your stand point is not consistent with the teaching of only one God if you refer to us as Gods.

ijawkid:
Did it ever occur to you that if adam did not disobey God he would have been our eternal Father??..uh??.....that title eternal Father does not equate Jesus with God,it only shows a role Jesus would play......

For someone who holds that only God is our Father, you really are pointing to a number of Fathers. I wonder where you get all these your teachings from. Please if the bold can be attributed to Sacred scriptures, I need the reference. Or else I believe it would be appropriate to say that some of your teachings are from human traditions which are un-scriptural.

ijawkid:
UBE has explained zilch......I and UBE have had this discussion numerous times.......and as usual the scriptures and the words of Jesus always prevails...

I don't think your arguments stems from Sacred scriptures. You make allusions to things that are not scriptural.

ijawkid:
God cannot die and he is indestructible......also Gods existence depends on nobody.........God also does not LIe nor play wayo......cheesy....

Hmmm...I thought you said you have discussed with Ube a number of times? I guess you haven't been reading his posts cause if you have, you would know his stance on the above. Anyways my guy stop the sentiments and focus on the scriptures since that is your only guide to the truth.

ijawkid:
Naaaaaa....not at all......I've explained what Jesus being called eternal Father means.....Jesus himself has a Father over him.....that alone should make you not mis-interprete Jesus being called eternal Father in the book of isaiah....

In your words: "your explanations do not hold water".

ijawkid:
Then why are you still confused and asking thought provoking questions

If the trinity answers all the questions then why are you wondering why Jesus should play us wayo and pray and cry to himself and also not know when he is coming back....hehehehe......

Thank you!

striktlymi:

The Catholic church is the only place where teachings are done; others sadly, learn instead of teaching.

Can you please openely tell us which spirit would make a set of people do obesisance to mummified pieces of human body parts??......

If the apostles had that spirit they would have worshipped anything and everything......

The question is still unanswered. Does this simple truth make God any less mysterious?

Yes it does....it takes us straight to the point......that God is one and that one God is the Father and not a conglomerate of persons.....

striktlymi:

We are not Gods, there is only one God.

And is this true one God triune??...answer my bro......

striktlymi:

This is not convincing! You need to study what it means to say that Christ is the only begotten son of the Father. Saying that Christ is also the Son of the most high is very inappropriate cause you assume that Christ Sonship to the Father is like that of any other man. This is very incorrect!
Which ever way you choose to look at it Christ is the son of the most high.....how you want to dodge and wrench the meaning baffles me.......I know Christs sonship to the Father is greater than ours, that in no way negates the basic truth that Christ is the son of God...........he was begotten for truths sake........how can the begotten be equal to the begetter......abi was the Father also begotten by the son??......

striktlymi:

The above still is not convincing cause it is explicit in Sacred scriptures that we have only one Father who lives for all eternity. Thus to name another Eternal Father when that individual is not him would be very inappropriate. We know that Sacred scriptures is true for all ages and it spoke the truth when it named Christ as the Eternal Father who happens to be God.
Your understanding of the title eternal Father is what is confusing you.......Jesus is doing what adam could not achieve......Jesus was bestowed with that responsibility and not that he is the same with the Father....

Read hebrews 2:11-13 and understand what Christ being given the title eternal father means...

Good morning Frosbel,

Is the above meant to assume that there is no mystery in the Christian faith? If this is so, I will be glad if you would reveal to me everything there is to know about God and the angels. Let the following guide your thoughts:

1) Where did God come from?
2) Why does God live forever?
3) Who gave God his powers?
4) If his powers existed as he did, how come he can't lose his powers?
5) When did God create the angels?
6) Are angels all male or female or a mix?

When you are done unraveling the above mysteries I have some further questions for you.

Thank you!

Don't be deceived...by their big English. We are not looking at how to FULLY understand God. We are against the LIES in trinity.

The bible clearly state that there is one God over all and He is the Father, 1Cor 8:6. While trinity lie states that there are 3 persons who are one God, trinity 1:1.

Which one will you go for? The truth which is written or the lie which is call a mystery and now defined as the inability to know God fully.

ijawkid:
Yes na..........hebrews don show you already......when Christ is called the last adam you think he's just called that for fancy......??.....

...and your private interpretation of Sacred scriptures tells you that Christ was called the Eternal Father because he is the last Adam? Eternal means something that exists without beginning or end. The assumption of Christ as the new Adam has a beginning and it obviously does not fit into the profile of an Eternal father. Go research what it means to be Eternal.

ijawkid:
Even Jesus was never called holy Father.....are you trying to say Holy Father is a lesser title than eternal Father??......

Now let's think through this one...

Question: Is Jesus Holy?

Question: Is Jesus the Eternal Father?
Answer: Yes

Question: If Jesus is the Eternal Father, can he be said to be a Father?
Answer: Yes.

Question: If Jesus is Holy and he is a Father, can he be said to be a Holy Father?
Answer: Yes

ijawkid:
I have read UBe's stuff...its still does not agree with the scriptures......

Philippians 2:5-11
New International Version (NIV)

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus 6 Who, being in very nature[a] God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!

ijawkid:

Don't tell me you are trying to shroud the TRUTH behind the 'cloak' of context.

ijawkid:
My stand is totally consistent..while yours is not.......

Claiming that your stance is consistent does not make it consistent. Everyone knows what you teach about not calling anyone Father, so let your word be your bond.

ijawkid:

Sacred scriptures does not interpret itself. I wonder where you guys got this from. Please if you have a scripture reference on this let's have it.

This is definitely a trick question! Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father.

Not exactly an invention but a teaching from the Catholic Church. This was what the Apostles did: they went about teaching through the inspiration of the Spirit. The Catholic Church for now is the only one that follows this example of the Apostles.

I don't see the contradiction in what you said above. The first said there is one God. The second said there is one God. The first is silent on the number of persons in that one God while the second goes further to reveal that there are three persons in that one God. Where is the contradiction?

striktlymi: Good evening Ube,

Now I am struggling to catch up! Why woun't you struggle to catch up.This doesn't happen to me very often! It happened to St Augustine once and he learned his lessons Now let's go back to the basics again please. God the Father is distinct from God the son and God the Holy spirit though they have the same essence, hence the notion of a 'three in one God'.

The Son prays to the Father who is distinct and he also promised the paraclete who also is distinct from the Son and the Father. These distinct persons can relate with each other without necessarily relating to themselves in the process, yet they are one. And you don't find this kinda 'foncusing'? Friend this is not MATHEMATICS

When you say creation isn't for the Father alone and compassion not just for the son, are you implying that when the Son carry out an activity, the Spirit and the Father take part in that same activity and vise versa? If this is so, can it be said that the Father cannot act without involving the Son and the Spirit? Or the Spirit cannot act without involving the Son and the Father?
so you think our little human brain can fully understand the Mystery of the TRINITY. Go on! I will see where this will take you. UBENEDICTUS has started finding elements of herery in your post. JUST CONTINUE! Maybe you will become the next Arius.

We will not let you and your 'mother church' misrepresent the INDIVIDUALITY of GOD smiley

How would you as ONE Person feel if your INDIVIDUALITY were to be taken away ?

"To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One." - Isaiah 40:25

Note the singular pronoun.

Stop confusing yourself Bro, GOD is ONE. wink

Welcome back bro,

Emotional blackmails do not scare me and from my standpoint those who are against the divinity of Christ are holding on to their private interpretations of sacred scriptures. All I see is a distortion of Sacred scriptures from you guys as far as the divinity of Christ is concerned simply because the Catholic church holds this to be true.

#Even your quote further proves that Jesus and the Father are one.

Lovethywilbedon: so you think our little human brain can fully understand the Mystery of the TRINITY. Go on! I will see where this will take you. UBENEDICTUS has started finding elements of herery in your post. JUST CONTINUE! Maybe you will become the next Arius.

Good evening Love,

I believe it is inappropriate to quote someone and distort the quote with your comments!
